Bob Mash- Modern Artist
Bob Mash is a medical doctor working in South Africa. Art has accompanied him on his journey through the townships of Cape Town, the environment of the Cape Peninsula and contemporary South African society.
He has had two exhibitions in Cape Town. The first was "A township tour" based on working in Khayelitsha during the 1990s. The second was "Surface Deep" in collaboration with a ceramacist Di Heesom-Green during the 2000s, which explored the depth of the ocean from the surface. Currently he exhibits his art in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University where he works.
Although not formally trained as an artist he has painted since childhood and attended short courses at a variety of art schools including the Leith School of Art (Edinburgh) , Ruth Prowse (Cape Town) and the Val Green Art Space (Cape Town).
Bob is a family physician and currently the Head of Family Medicine and Primary Care at Stellenbosch University. His wife is an Anglican priest who leads the Green Anglican movement in southern Africa and engages with environmental issues.
His art reflects his experience as a doctor, environmental issues, people and places, mostly in the Cape Peninsula.
